Farsh Aramziya (Chapel of Saint John the Baptist)

Farsh al-Aramziyya is also known as Farsh Zahrour for the Sinai hawthorn (Crataegus sinaica) found in the basin. Here stands a small stone chapel dedicated to Saint John the Baptist (“Saint John the Forerunner”). At the edge of the basin, just above the monastery, lie the ruins of another chapel, with spectacular views. Part of the basin system was dammed, partly to save water for use, but also to protect the monastery from flash floods.

Photos were taken in 2006.

More photos coming.
