Farsh Safsafa (Chapel of the Holy Girdle of the Virgin Mary)

Tucked between granite walls, lies another quiet basin, known as Farsh Safsafa, with a small walled garden, a well, and a chapel. The chapel is dedicated to the Holy Girdle of the Virgin Mary (the Theotokos). Immediately above rise the twin peaks of Ras Safsafa, which some identified in the past as Mount Sinai. From the summit there is a sweeping view over the Wadi al-Raha plain, while from the basin’s mouth—where it drops into a steep gully—you can see the Nabi Harun area. There are some more ancient ruins in this gully, which leads to the Golden Calf.
