Jebel Hmeyer
Ramlat Hmeyer, the “Red Sand”, is a vast desert plain between the dark Serabit ranges and the Tih Plateau. It comes to an end at Jebel Hmeyer which looks like a hill from one side, but there is a dramatic drop on the other. A 4×4 vehicle can easily drive up to the flat top, there is a good track. Below another plain lies, with curious patterns of red and black sand washed together by rains.
Around Jebel Hmeyer
- Jebel Hmeyer: a long, flat black plateau in the middle of Ramlat Hmeyer.
- Ramlat Hmeyer: an area within El Ramla between Serabit el Khadim and the Forest of Pillars, with very fine red sand, and Jebel Hmeyer in the middle.
- El Ramla: a vast desert plain that runs below the Tih Plateau, connecting the west coast to Wadi Zalaqa and the east coast.
- Umm Ajraf: a sandy area near Serabit el Khadim, connecting over a sandy foot pass to Wadi Khamila and Ramlat Hmeyer.
- Wadi Sieh: the main route from Ramlat Hmeyer to Wadi Mukattab and Wadi Maghara.
- Wadi Gharaba and Hashm el Gharaba: the routes from El Ramla to El Joofa, the first by 4×4, the later by foot only, on the way to either Wadi Zalaqa or the high mountains via Elu el Ajramiya.
