Elijah’s Basin (Farsh Eliya)

Elijah’s Basin (Farsh Eliya) is a fairly large basin located right below the summit of Mt. Sinai, after the first flight of the Steps of Repentance. It is where pilgrims first can have a view of the summit. It is believed that the prophet Elijah sought refuge here, giving the site its name. In the basin you find several chapels and a church, including the Church of Elijah, the Chapel of Saint Marina the Virgin, and the Chapel of Saint Stephen of Sinai.
